"A BRIEF HISTORY OF G 2/5 IN WWII"

The war in the Pacific had been a disaster since the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor December 7th, 1941. Defeat after defeat for us. However, only eight short months after this surprise attack, the 1st Marine Division and G 2/5, landed in force on Guadalcanal and the surrounding islands. Over a period of nearly six months of jungle warfare, the Japanese were totally defeated, and they never won another battle in the Pacific Theatre again.

This spelled the beginning of the end of the Japanese Army. G 2/5would go on to fight at New Guinea, New Britain, Peleliu and Okinawa. After the atomic bombs were dropped and the Japanese were brought to peace terms the 1st marine Division was dispatched in September 1945 to North China to take the surrender and repatriation of the Japanese Army there. This turned into an occupational situation that lasted four years until a political solution was finally reached.
