| Pictured here, Charles A. Hutchings. Enlisted in USMC at the height of the depression in 1936, as did many young men, and went on to serve in G-Co. 2nd Bn. 5th Marines 1st Marine Division at it's formation. Hutchings fought in the major battles of Tulagi, Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester and Peleliu. He rose from the ranks and received a battle field commission to the rank of 2nd Lt. When he left the Corps in 1946 he held the rank of I 't Lt. This picture could pass for a recruiting poster of an excellent Marine. |
